Acknowledge God

God wants us to acknowledge Him. Psalm 46:10 says "Be still and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth". When we acknowledge God, there will be a confession of sin (Proverbs 28:13), a confession of salvation (Romans 10:10), a confession of the Savior (John 4:15). We must admit our own weakness in the flesh, our inability to help ourselves and our total dependence on Jesus Christ. Jesus said "without me, ye can do nothing" John 15:5. Paul said, " I can do all things through Christ which strengthen me" (Philippians 4:13). We are to commit our ways to Him (Proverbs 3:6), we are to commit our lives to Him (Philippians 1:21), and we are to commit our will to Him (Luke 22:42).  

God wants our allegiance. Jesus commanded, " And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple" (Luke 14:27). We give our allegiance to many different things, political parties, employers, family and friends and many other things, but God wants us to give Him our allegiance first. We will make time for what is most important in our lives. Colossians 3:2 says "Set your affections on things above, not on things of the earth". 

God wants us to be available to Him. We need God. Many time's people think that God needs them. People who think this have, an overinflated ego. Nothing could be further from the truth. Romans 12:3 says "For I say through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think........ The Lord wants to use us but He can and will use someone else if we are not willing to be obedient to Him.

The verse means that none can do good without the grace of God, the strength of Christ and the assistance of the Spirit; there is not even a spiritual man that can do perfect good. We all have sin in us. The works of the flesh produce evil meaning that we are naturally weak and are being opposed by evil spirits and by evil men. Our good intentions can easily be derailed. The fruit of the Spirit results in doing good (Galatians 5 19-26). 

Christians very often feel that there is so many things that need to be done that they can't possibly do it all. Remember we can only do one thing at a time. We as individuals can only do so much. We should schedule times to rest ( Mark 6:31). We can be overcommitted to a cause. This can cause burnout and say what's the use. Discernment is essential here. Often times all God wants from us is to take a deep breath and calm down (Psalm46:10: Luke 10:41). 

We will never grow weary of doing good if we have Christ Jesus (Galatians 5:24). We should give ourselves fully to the Lord because we know our labor is not in vain (1 Corinthians 15:58).

Alcohol

Getting drunk is a sin, but what about drinking in moderation? Drinking alcohol has been the subject of debate within the church for centuries, but never more so than in recent years. With the shift toward postmodernism, practices that were once discouraged by the Christian community have been embraced and even promoted. The open consumption of alcohol is one of those practices. In Bible times, anyone set apart for God was to totally abstain from any fruit of the vine (Judges 13:4; Leviticus 10:9; Numbers 6:3; Luke 1:15). The wine was often symbolic of worldly contamination, and those called into priestly service were to keep themselves from it. Such warnings have led many followers of Christ to forgo alcohol altogether, deeming any use of it unwise. Although drinking in moderation is not condemned in Scripture, there are many warnings about its destructive nature (Proverbs 20:1; 31:4). So why does the Bible speak so strongly against becoming affected by alcohol?  Ephesians 5:18 holds the key: “Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit.” Two elements are being compared: alcohol and the Holy Spirit. Each has the power to take control of a person’s mind and behavior—with vastly different results. Getting drunk leads to a loss of self-control; being filled with the Spirit leads to more self-control (Galatians 5:22–23). We cannot be controlled by both alcoholic spirits and the Holy Spirit at the same time. When we choose to ingest mind-altering substances, we are effectively choosing to give ourselves over to the control of something other than the Holy Spirit. Anything that takes control of our mind, will, and emotions is a false god. Any master we obey other than the Lord is an idol, and idolatry is sin (1 Corinthians 10:14). 

Time

Awhile back while studying, the Scriptures I came across a couple of passages that on the surface would appear to be a contradiction. I've come to find out that by researching the historical and cultural context is necessary for complete understanding of God's Word. Knowing that Christianity's opponents will find every reason to charge the Scriptures with contradiction, we as believers in a Sovereign God must be prepared to give a defense for the hope that is in us by understanding contextually, historically and culturally why we believe what we believe. So here you have it.  

Mark 15:22-25 They brought Him to the place called Golgotha, which means, “Place of a Skull.” They gave Him wine mingled with myrrh to drink, but He did not take it. When they had crucified Him, they divided His garments, casting lots for them, to decide what each man should take. Now it was the THIRD HOUR, and they crucified Him.  

Notice in the passage above Mark states that Jesus was crucified on the third hour, which according to the Jewish timetable the beginning of a day started at 6am (sun up), so by doing the math we see that the third hour is 9am in the morning when they crucified Jesus.  

Sounds simple enough, but let's take a look at John's account.  

John 19:13-15 When Pilate heard these words, he brought Jesus out and sat down on the judgment seat at a place called The Pavement which in Hebrew is Gabbatha. It was the Day of Preparation of the Passover and about the SIXTH HOUR. He said to the Jews, “Here is your King!” But they shouted, “Away with Him! Away with Him! Crucify Him!” Pilate said to them, “Shall I crucify your King?” The chief priests answered, “We have no king but Caesar!”  

Now how is it that Jesus according to the Gospel of Mark is being crucified on the THIRD HOUR but according to John's Gospel He is standing before Pilate being condemned to death on the SIXTH HOUR? Shouldn't Jesus already be nailed to the cross? 

The reason I'm writing this is to give us a proper understanding of God's Word. To understand what the apostle John is saying we must understand who his audience is that he's writing his gospel account to. We know contextually that John wrote his gospel to Gentile believers. How do we know that? Because when we read John's account, we see that he had to explain Jewish customs, translate Jewish names, and locate Palestinian sites. These facts suggest that he was writing for Gentile readers who lived primarily outside Palestine. Therefore, the timetable in which they would understand is the Roman timetable which operates equally to ours today. So John's sixth hour is referring to 6am in the morning, which is identical to the time that Jesus was standing before Pilate in the synoptic Gospel's (Mark 15:1-2). Three hours later Jesus would be nailed to the cross.

Traffic,

Be happy, if you are not bothered too much by the traffic in big cities of the Philippines. But in Central Manila or Cebu you will have to deal with it. It´s not that the roads are too narrow, it´s more that the technology of managing the traffic is far below the demand. Because the traffic lights are not equipped with smart traffic ruling technology (Police Officers /Traffic Enforcers instead try to beat the "war on traffic").
The Philippine economy is losing billions of Pesos every day and every Filipino (incl. all the companies) getting stucked in this traffic is (are) paying the bill of traffic ruling mismanagement in the Philippines!

Unfortunately our old (fashioned) President Duterte invests more money into hiring death squads to kill 10,000s of Filipinos instead of investing the money into developing new technologies and urgently needed police jobs like being at a crime scene, when being called - THIS would make the Philippines much safer,  more efficient and competitive in world economy (and would beat the "drug war" in an intelligent way).

JUST IMAGINE, Duterte would invest the amount of 30,000.00 PHP per dead body of his "assassination squad teams" (means 10,000 x 30,000.00 = 300,000,000.00 / 300 million PHP plus millions of PHP for knocking at people´s door - altogether probably nearly 1 billion PHP) into traffic and internet infrastructure:  THEN  Duterte would have the chance to create more jobs - and to create more jobs is the clue to solving
"It´s the economy, stupid!" already said former Pres. Bill Clinton to the old Pres. George H.W. Bush...

So the Philippine government could easily solve the traffic problem. But as long as Duterte is celebrated because of his senseless and expensive "war on drugs", he will not invest the urgently needed money into speeding up traffic and internet. He will instead stay in financing "death squads" and in offending international politicians. So, we all have the power to change this fatal development by saying what we really want - or we just keep on mourning about Duterte´s failing politics!

Eliphaz and Job

Job 5:2 "For wrath killeth the foolish man, and envy slayeth the silly one." 

That is, say some, a man’s wrath and impatience prey upon his spirit, and so hasten his death. But the meaning seems rather to be, that “God in his anger and indignation destroys the wicked, and such as err from his precepts.” It is probable that Eliphaz intended to distinguish Job by the characters of foolish and silly one, to insinuate that all his misfortunes were owing to his folly and weakness, or to his sins and vices. By the foolish is meant the rash and inconsiderate man, who does not weigh things impartially. And by the silly one, the man who, for want of true wisdom, is soon deceived with false opinions, and with appearances of present things.                                                                                                                             

Eliphaz believed that Job had placed his trust in something, or someone, other than God. He couldn't figure out with his mind what was happening to Job, and he was seeking reasons that were logical. We find that with many of the people who study the book of Job, they are so busy trying to figure out what Job did to cause this calamity that they miss the whole meaning of the book. Job did not do anything to bring this problem on. The fact that he was righteous in the sight of God caused this. 

  

Verses 3-7: Eliphaz was convinced that ‘trouble” always starts somewhere; it does not just “happen” such as (“trouble spring out of the ground”). By saying that he had seen sinners prosper (“taking root”), only to lose everything in the end, Eliphaz wrongly suggested that Job’s sin led to the death of his children. 

Verses 8-27: Speaking in spiritual platitudes, Job’s friend presumed to know the cause of Job’s suffering. Eliphaz also told him if he would just submit (“despise not”), to the (“chastening of the Almighty”), Job would reap a harvest of blessing. But no one can make such a prediction. Eliphaz modeled how not to address another person’s affliction. 

Viewpoint

 John relates Jesus’ life from a heavenly point of view, while Matthew relates it from a Jewish point of view, Luke from a Greek point of view, and Mark from a Roman viewpoint. As a consequence, John is the only Gospel author who wrote to a universal audience. Why did he write the book? Here is John’s answer to that question: 

“These are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.”

Psalm 35: 27 meaning                                                                                                                                                                                                                                            When David's enemies were confused and ashamed (verse 26) his friends are naturally happy. They do this partly out of sympathy, and partly because their own interests are bound up in their leader. If David had been captured by Saul, David's followers would have been put to death or exiled (Saul was hunting David on the mountain). God desired for David's present troubles to stop, and that he enjoys a time of peace. I think he was enduring much stress in his life at this time. All this stress can take a toll on a person's body. God knew this, that is probably why God desired the troubles to stop. God granted this time of rest and peace to him somewhat at Ziglag (1 Samuel 27:4-7), more fully when he came into his kingdom (2 Samuel 5:1-16)
