Heaven and hell

Most people believe they will go to Heaven or Hell based on how good or bad they were on earth. While most people think it will be close, they do believe that they’ll make it to Heaven. Unfortunately, the opposite is true. “Just as people are destined to die once, and after that to face judgment, so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him” (Hebrews 9:27-28).
In Romans 3-7 Paul shows us how all have sinned and are guilty. In Romans 1-2 Paul shows us why good men and women aren’t good enough for God’s heaven. Good people need forgiveness for their sins just like everyone else. Christians have their sins forgiven at the cross. Because of God’s grace and mercy Christians will never face their sins again. Not so with those who died without a Savior.

Music history

"Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress" (also called "Long Cool Woman" or "Long Cool Woman (in a Black Dress)") is a song written by Allan Clarke, Roger Cook, and Roger Greenaway and performed by the British rock group The Hollies. Originally appearing on the album Distant Light, it was released as a singlein April 1972 (on Parlophone in the United Kingdom), selling 1.5 million copies in the United States and two million worldwide. It reached No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 in September 1972. Billboardranked it as the No. 24 song for 1972.
On the day "Long Cool Woman" was recorded at AIR Studios, the group's producer, Ron Richards, was ill and, as a result, the song was produced by the group. The song is different from most Hollies songs in that there are no three-part vocal harmonies, and the song features lead guitar and lead vocal work by Allan Clarke. Upon his return, Ron Richards mixed the recording.
The song was written in the swamp rock style of Creedence Clearwater Revival, in terms of the vocal, rhythm, and melodic style. It came out in the spring of 1972 (the same year Creedence split up). Clarke imitated John Fogerty's vocal style, which was based on the Creedence song "Green River". According to Clarke, the song was written "in about five minutes". When the song made its mark in America, Clarke had already left the band, but Clarke feels that "it wasn't unfortunate", since he had co-written the song. Clarke rejoined the Hollies in the summer of 1973, partly due to the success of this song.

Prophets and Fruit

Prophets and Fruit

Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? Likewise, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them.

Nothing is permanent

Nothing you experience in this lifetime is permanent -- your successes, failures, your joy, your pain, the time you spend with those you love -- none of it. What IS permanent is God. Your pain and suffering will end, so take heart. Your success, joy and loved ones will end, also, so cherish and celebrate them. And, in knowing God outlasts it all, also KNOW PEACE.

God

God is patient, God is kind. God does not envy, God does not boast, God is not proud. God is not rude or self-seeking. God is not easily angered, God keeps no record of wrongs. God does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. God always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

Hiking - "I don't like either the word or the thing. People ought to saunter in the mountains - not hike! Do you know the origin of that word 'saunter?' It's a beautiful word. Away back in the Middle Ages people used to go on pilgrimages to the Holy Land, and when people in the villages through which they passed asked where they were going, they would reply, 'A la sainte terre,' 'To the Holy Land.' And so they became known as sainte-terre-ers or saunterers. Now these mountains are our Holy Land, and we ought to saunter through them reverently, not 'hike' through them."

Man's way

I think the majority of people who believe in God are trying to earn their way to heaven because they mistakenly believe that God's economy operates like man's economy.
(Proverbs 14:12) There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death.
God does not reward people for doing good work like the world does. In the world, you do a good job and you get rewarded, but God rewards us for having faith in His Son, Christ Jesus, Messiah Yeshua.
(John 1:12) But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God,

The merciful

The most fundamental aspect in our relationship with God is mercy. We only have a relationship with God because of His tremendous mercy. Without it we are estranged from it.
We received it and we are to show it to others. Those who refuse it receive God's judgement. The ruthless, cruel, inhumane and purely evil do not show mercy to others. They live in open rebellion against God and will not receive mercy from God in the end.

Pilgrims

After sixty-six days at sea, the Mayflower arrived with 102 passengers at Cape Cod, Massachusetts on November 9, 1620. They had intended to land in Virginia, but poor weather and poor navigation led them slightly off course. These first “pilgrims” were a mix of business traders and those escaping the jurisdiction of the Church of England. They may have brought with them the Geneva Bible—the Bible popular among English Protestants.
Many “pilgrims” were from a sect known as Separatists. Their desire was to form independent congregations strictly following their interpretation of the Bible. Their action was prompted by 2 Corinthians 6:16–18 in the Geneva Bible translation, including verse 17: “Wherefore come out from among them, and separate yourselves . . .
